FIR against UP Addl DG for making money in police recruitments
Lucknow, July 26 (UNI) Even as the Mayawati government has ordered an inquiry into the recruitment in police and PAC during the previous Mulayam Singh regime in Uttar Pradesh, an FIR has been lodged against a senior police officer in the state capital on charges of collecting illegal money for jobs in the department.
State DGP Vikram Singh had directed the lodging of the FIR against Additional Director General (Rules and Manuals) Ajay Singh in Hazratganj kotwali here on an individual complaint alleging the official had collected huge amount of money for assuring jobs of constables and class IV employees in the police department.
It came to light when one Ram Nath , who had collected money and given to the ADG through a conduit Shanti Prasad, approached the DGP for intervention. He had asked for the return of the money as the purpose was not fulfilled. Subsequently, the cheque which was given to one Bharat Bhausan payable at Agra was found to be fake.
DGP ordered the filing of FIR under various sections of the IPC, while according to highly placed sources, an inquiry by the Anti- Corruption Organisation (ACO) is being contemplated by the state government.
The senior police officers, however, refused to speak on the issue, saying the ''matter was under investigation.'' The matter came close on the heels of large scale bunglings which were committed during the earlier regime in the name of recruitment in police and PAC.
UP government had already ordered enquiry into functionings of over a dozen recruitment boards set up during the Samajwadi Party regime. ADG (STF) Shailja Kant Mishra had been entrusted with the inquiry.
