Fidayeen attack on CRPF camp foiled, 2 militants killed

Srinagar, July 26 (UNI) Alert Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) guards today foiled a militant attack on their camp on the outskirts of the summer capital, when they gunned down two heavily armed ultras.

A CRPF spokesman told UNI that the two fidayeen, reportedly assisted by another, hurled hand grenades before resorting to indiscriminate firing near the main gate of the 42 Battalion camp at Zakoora at 1000 hrs.

He said alert guards on duty retaliated and a fierce encounter ensued during which the two fidayeen were killed.

The spokesman said further details were being gathered as senior officers have rushed to the spot.

The entire area was cordoned off and a massive search launched.

This is the first fidayeen attack in the city this year.
