Excise dept register cases against firms for service tax evasion

Jaipur, July 26 (UNI) Jaipur Central Excise Department has unearthed service tax evasion worth Rs 35.74 lakh.

Commissioner, Central Excise, Jaipur II, BSV Murthi said the department has registered four major cases of tax evasion. The first case involves Rs 24.76 lakh relating to maintenance of tyre reteading while the second case of Rs 9.35 lakh is connected to packing services, he said. The third case of Rs 86,000 pertains to manpower recruitment and supplier agency and the fourth of Rs 77,000 relates to renting a cab service, Mr Murthi said. Two cases of evasion of central excise have also been unearthed which include Rs 173.86 lakh and Rs 4.76 lakh, he added.

Service tax has been imposed on renting of immovable property used for expanding business or commerce from last month, he said and appealed to the service providers to register themselves with the respective central excise offices. The central excise revenue of Rs 289.86 crore and a service tax of Rs 37.32 crores has been released from 14 southern districts of Rajasthan, Mr Murthi added.
