Escorts to start Super-Specialty Course in Cardiology

Amritsar, July 26 (UNI) National Board of Examinations (NBE), a premier medical body for academic activity under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India has granted approval to Escorts Hospital of the district for conducting Super-Specialty Academic Course in Cardiology.

Escorts Executive Director Lt Gen (Retd) Dr ML Chawla while explaining the hospital's entry into the 'privileged' academic field, annonced that the hospital would start a three year course in the field of Cardiology by January 2008.

He further stated that the admission criteria for the course would be strictly on merit as only one student would be admitted per year. The candidates will required a minimum qualification of a Post Graduate degree duly recognised by NBE/ MCI (Medical Council of India) or University to be eligible for the course, Mr Chawla said.

"The course would be based on more of practical knowledge and practice under the specialised faculty," he added.

On its future academic plans, the executive director said the hospital would be making a presentation to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for starting Super Specialty Courses in Cardio Thoracic surgery and Cardio Thoracic Anesthesia.
