Counter intelligence wing to tackle police-mafia link: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, July 26: Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today told the State Assembly that a 'Counter Intelligence Wing' will be constituted to curb the mafia-police link in the State.

Replying to a Calling-Attention Motion given notice of by Mr T N Prathapan (Congress), he said the Government would take stringent action against those police personnel who had links with mafia and goonda elements.

Mr Balakrishnan said an internal vigilance wing would be set up at the police headquarters under the supervision of the Director General of Police to deal with the unholy nexus among criminals, police and politicians.

He claimed that except for a small percentage, the police force in the State was functioning corruption-free.
