Bhubaneswar, July 26 (UNI) In a response to the call given by its national body, the Orissa unit of CITU will organise a statewide bandh on August 8 demanding formulation of law to protect the interest of labourers in unorganised sector.

State CITU vice-president Shivaji Patnaik told mediapersons here that various trade unions, including Khet Majdoor union, Shramik Karmachari Ekata Manch and Orissa Krushak Sabha, had already extended their support towards the bandh.

Mr Patnaik said though the UPA government had ensured in their Common Minimum Programme to formulate laws in the interest of the labourers of the unorganised sector, they had failed to do so.

He also alleged that the bill drafted by the Union Cabinet, after the trade unions and left parties put pressure, had no provision for the improvement of the condition and social security of these labourers.

The CITU demanded that the proposed law should have two separate laws--one to deal with the working condition of the labourers and the other on the social security.

Among other issues, they demanded implementation of minimum wages, wages to the women at par with men and setting up of a Social Security Authority to protect the interests of the unorganised sector labourers.
