Building collapse: Accused remanded to police custody
Mumbai, July 26 (UNI) A local court today remanded Subhash Jain, owner of Vardhaman Jewellers, who has been accused of negligence in the Laxmi Chhaya building collapse in Borivali, to police custody till July 31.
Jain, owner of gala number 406 situated on the ground floor of the collapsed building, had removed pillars during renovation of the shop, which caused the seven-storeyed building to crumble on July 17. In the mishap, 30 people were killed and 14 others injured.
Senior inspector of police P T Tiwari of Borivali police station said the accused had been admitted to a local hospital after the collapse, and was arrested today on his discharge.
