Agartala, July 26: Bangladesh Tour Operators Association (BTOA) has urged Tripura government to popularise the concept of making a brief halt in Dhaka to Indian travelers, availing Agartala-Kolkata bus via Bangladesh and assured all logistic support to tourists in their territory.

In a meeting with Tripura Tourism minister Anil Sarkar today, BTOA President Hassan Mansur said, Bangladesh is keen to develop tourism relation with NE Indian states based in Tripura.

A 12-member BTOA delegation led by Mr Mansur arrived here last evening as part of their initiative to explore tourism potential of the region. The delegation will leave the state for Meghalaya tomorrow and subsequently visit Asom and West Bengal during the trip.

''BOTA is considering to incorporate Tripura in their tourism map, which will facilitate a low cost international trip for their tourists,'' said Mr Sarkar adding that this will promote Patriotic tourism between two nations considering Tripura's contribution in Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.

Mr Sarkar has asked BTOA officials to take up the issue of withdrawing the existing travel tax of Rs 300/- collected from Indian travelers with Bangladesh government for encouraging more Indian visitors in Dhaka.

BTOA has also held meeting with Tour Operators of Tripura and hinted that they would press for transit visa for tourists to tap the full tourism potential of Tripura as well as other NE states.

Talking to mediapersons in Akhaura check post, Mr Mansur said the visit is aimed at enhancing cooperation with the region to boost tourism potential and BTOA has been contemplating to introduce conduct tour involving NE states.

He has also stated that BTOA would contemplate for simplification of visa process for Indian travelers to boost the tourism sector of Bangladesh.

''We are going to organise a tourism festival at Dhaka in first week of September next and have already invited Tripura to showcase it's tourism potential, which will help us to attract tourist in the region,'' Mr Mansur added.
