3 killed in 24 hour-long Baramulla encounter in JK

Srinagar, July 26: Two militants, who were holed up in a house at Lam-Mohalla in Nadihal in Baramulla District, were killed on Wednesday night in a joint police-Army operation that lasted for more than 24 hours.

A police personnel was also killed in the encounter.

According to DIG North Kashmir Range, B. Srinivas, the operation that began late on Tuesday night ended on Wednesday night after security forces eliminated both the militants.

One militant, identified as Abu Talha, was killed in the police firing when he tried to escape by jumping out of the window.

However, one more holed up militant continued to fire upon police, and he too was eliminated on Wednesday night, Srinivas said.

Acting on a tip off, police assisted by 32 Rashtriya Rifles, reached the house where the militants were hiding. However, the militants fired upon the security forces injuring two Special Police Officers identified as Waheed Ahmad and Shah Nawaz.

Ahmed later succumbed to injuries and Nawaz is presently admitted in a Srinagar hospital with neck injuries.

A lady identified as Dilshada, and three more policemen have also received minor injuries during the encounter.
