WR comes down heavily on ticketless travellers

Ahmedabad, July 25 (UNI) In a bid to provide better services and to plug-in the revenue losses due to ticketless travel and such other irregularities, the Western Railway (WR) authorities have taken several stern steps.

During June, over 93,000 cases of ticketless travel and other irregularties were detected by the authorities and recovery of Rs 236.80 lakh was done, a WR release said here this evening.

Similarly, 142 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets were detected and an amount of Rs 1,15,878 was realised.

During the same period, 132 checks were conducted against touts and other unsocial elements. As a result, 389 people were apprehended and got prosecuted under Indian Railway Act, 1989. Of the 389 cases, 372 persons were fined and an amount of Rs 28,940 was recovered from them and 17 persons were sent to jail, the release added.
