Woman commits suicide over dowry harassment

Surat, July 25 (UNI) A woman committed suicide by consuming mosqito repellent here over dowry harassment.

Sambharani killed herself yesterday by consuming mosquito repellent as she was unable to fulfil her husband and in-laws' demand to get Rs two lakh dowry that they had been demanding since the past two years, police said here today.

She was threatened with dire consequences if she failed to get the money, police said adding that her inability to get the money forced her to take the drastic step.

She was taken to a private hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

A case has been registered under sections 498, 506(2), 323 and 114 of the IPC against her husband and in-laws, police added.
