Patna, Jul 25 (UNI) Torrential rains for yet another day in the state capital disrupted normal life as city dwellers were badly affected by choked drains.

Following heavy rains, several low lying areas in Patna were waterlogged, causing hardships to the people.

Local MET office here said 42 mm of rainfall was recorded in the city today and forecast more showers during the next 24 hours as the sky continued to remain overcast.

Meanwhile, waterlogging in the state capital and the alleged irresponsiblity of the concerned authorities claimed the life of a minor girl when she slipped into an open ditch in Kankerbagh colony.

The low lying areas of Patel Nagar, Patliputra Colony and Sri Krishna Nagar had been waterlogged upto knee level. Acute scarcity of electricity and water disrupted normal life.

Waterlogging since a week forced the residents of S K Nagar to come out on the street in protest against the concerned authorities.

''No action had been taken by the authorities, although the High Court has ordered Patna Muncipal Corporation to provide relief in the waterlogged areas,'' Mr M K singh, a resident from S K Nagar, said.

The work on road widening, flyover construction and drainage system near Chiraiya tarpul caused congestion in these areas which led to heavy traffic jam. The school children and office-goers had to face difficulties.

The open manholes and ditches filled with water in the hours of heavy downpour posed a great danger for the childern and light vehicles.

The stagnant water could become a breeding place for mosquitoes and cause various water borne diseases such as malaria, typhoid and diarrhoea.
