Vanniyar Sangam demands inclusion in MBC list

Chennai, July 25 (UNI) Hundreds of men and women belonging to the South Indian Vanniyar Sangam went on a day's fast here today to draw the Tamil Nadu Government's attention to their long pending demand of inclusion them in the Most Backward Class (MBC) list.

Talking to newspersons, Sangam President V Dandapani Chettiar and Coordinator S Rajendran said people belonging to their community were at a disadvantage as they were placed in the Backward Class (BC) list.

Most of the people in the community were socially and economically backward and due to abject poverty they were unable to send their children to school, they pointed out and said despite repeated pleas, they were not included in the Most Backward Class list for the past 40 years.

The Sangam leaders urged Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to include them in the MBC list.
