SP MP declared absconder, efforts on to attach property

Allahabad, July 25 (UNI) Samajwadi Party MP Atik Ahmad has been declared absconder, and efforts are on to attach his property.

''Atik, the SP MP from Phoolpur, has been declared absconder in the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Junior Division) court yesterday,'' Senior Superintendent of Police K S Pratap Kumar said here today.

A notice to this effect has been issued under section 82 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and efforts are being made for attachment of his property, Mr Kumar added.

The SP MP is accused of kidnapping a prime witness -- Umesh Pal -- in the murder case of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal.

About seven cases of abduction and assault were registered against the controversial MP in the last one month.

Earlier, Atik's brother and former MLA Mohd Ashraf was also declared absconder.

''A reward would soon be announced on both the brothers after their property is attached,'' Mr Kumar added.
