Sony eyes $700 mln turnover in FY08, launches new VAIO notebooks

New Delhi, July 25 (UNI) Sony India Pvt Ltd today said the company targets a turnover of 700 million dollars in FY08 from its notebook business and will launch new products by this year-end.

''We expect a turnover of 700 million dollars in FY08 from 500 million dollars during FYO7, with the launch of the new products today and more in the near future,'' company's sales and marketing head Sachin Thapar told reporters here on the sidelines of the launch of its new colourful VAIO CR series notebooks.

He said the company also targets to sell 60,000 units of notebooks by FY08 including 15,000 units of the new VAIO CR series.

''The company has a market share of about 10 per cent at present and is planning to expand more through tie-ups with retailers like Chroma, Hypercity and e-zone, who are already selling their laptops,'' company's Managing Director Masaru Tamagawa said.

The new notebooks are priced between Rs 54,990 and Rs 64,990.

The VAIO CR series comes with a colourful 35.8 cm clear bright LCD Lite and has DVD playback and entertainment. Music, video, still images and multimedia programmes are made at the touch of a button with the new high resolution built-in web camera and audio feature.

The VGN-CR12GH (black) and VGN-CR11GH (pink, indigo, blue, pure white and blazing red) cost Rs 54,990 respectively, whereas VGN-CR14GH which comes in black, costs Rs 64,990.

The new AV mode button is embedded into the notebooks thereby making it possible to store music or play DVDs with a single click and there is no need to power up Windows to access the files.

The notebook is backed by Intel Core Duo processor technology and comes pre-installed with Windows Vista operating system and is easier is connect to wireless networks.

It offers features such as lustrous coating, luminous trim and illuminated LED lighting to make it stand out in the crowd.

''The CR VAIO takes personal style beyond the boundaries of clothing and accessories, adding a technology element into the mix, enabling users to make a personal statement of what they want to be and is truly fashionable,'' added Mr Tamagawa.
