LS Speaker Somnath Chatterjee turns 78

New Delhi, July 25: Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee turned 78 today.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi telephoned Mr Chatterjee to greet him on the occasion.

Several Union ministers and Members of Parliament visited Mr Chatterjee's house to wish him on his birthday.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanadhi, who is here to attend the swearing-in of President Pratibha Patil, drove to Mr Chatterjee's house in the morning to greet him. He was accompanied by all DMK ministers and MPs.

Outgoing President A P J Abdul Kalam also greeted Mr Chatterjee.
