Rainfall continues in UP, Ghagra, Kuano rivers cross red mark

Lucknow, July 25 (UNI) With parts of Uttar Pradesh receiving substantial rainfall for the third consecutive day today, turbulent Ghagra and Kuano rivers crossed the danger mark.

While, Kuano river was flowing 92 cm above the red mark at Chandradeep Ghat, Ghagra was nine cm and six cm above the danger mark in Algin Bridge and Ayodhya respectively, Met spokesperson told UNI here.

The swelling rivers of the Basti district have posed flood threat to 27 villages and affected more than 15,000 locals. Besides, five hectares of crop had been destroyed.

Several remote areas were inundated, while the low lying urban areas were waterlogged making the life full of hardships.

Flood threat haunts almost 70 villages of the Harraiya Tehsil due to sharp rise in the water level in the turbulent Ghagra and Manorama rivers. Besides, 35 villages of the tehsil had been inundated, while seven were facing threat from the Kuano river.

According to reports, all the major rivers, including Ghagra, Gomti, Ganga, Kuano, Manorama and Ram Ganga were on the rise.

Several villages have been affected, following erosion in Sharda river, a report from Lakhimpur Kheri said.

The Sharda river was flowing 24 cm below the danger mark in Shardanagar, while Kuano was recorded 57 cm below the red mark in Basti. Other rivers, including Gomti, Rapti and Ram Ganga were also rising in Jaunpur, Balrampur and Moradabad respectively.

Meanwhile, Fatehgarh recorded the maximum rainfall at nine cm, followed by Bareilly six, Kalagarh five and Rae Bareli three.

The delayed monsoon has also become active in Allahabad providing respite from the hot and humid conditions prevailing since last couple of days.

The weathermen have forecast heavy downpour in all divisions of UP in the next 24 hours.
