Pawar to flag off co-op sector centenary fete

Mysore, July 25: Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar will inaugurate the centenary celebrations of the co-operative movement in Karnataka here tomorrow.

As many as 50,000 delegates from across the state and other parts of the country are expected to participate in the four-day event.

According to Media and Publicity Committee Chairman Vasu nearly 100 best cooperative societies and an equal number of distinguished people from the sector would be felicitated on the occasion. As many as 15 people would be given the 'Sahakara Ratna Aawards' by Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy Experts from different disciplines of the cooperative sector like milk producer unions, women's cooperative societies, urban cooperative banks and credit cooperative societies would present papers relating to their field at various sessions.

An exhibition on the cooperative movement was also organised on the occasion which would be declared open by Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition N Dharam Singh tomorrow.

Karnataka Energy and PWD Minister H D Revanna will release the documentary on 100 years of the cooperative sector in the state.

District Incharge and Cooperative Minister G T Deve Gowda will preside over the function. The fete will cost of Rs 1.5 crore.

A four-day 'Mysooru Utasava' will be organised from tomorrow. It would include spectacular dance show 'Natya Vaibhava' by Natyantaranga on July 26.

The event would conclude with a musical night by Udit Narayan held at different venues of the city of palaces, enthralling the people.
