One-man Comm to examine working conditions of Gramin Dak Sevaks

New Delhi, July 25 (UNI) The government has appointed a one-member Committee headed by R S Ratraja Murti, to examine the wage structure and working conditions of Gramin Dak Sevaks (postal service employees in the rural areas).

Mr Murti is the retired member of Postal Service Board. He will be assisted by A K Sharma, a senior administrative grade officer, who will act as the Committee's Secretary, an official announcement said today.

The Commitee will also have to examine the system of extra departmental post offices including the employment conditions there and the facilities provided to the public at different classes of extra departmental post offices and recommend suitable changes, if necessary.

The Committee has been asked to access the plausibility of introducing a social security scheme for providing provident fund and retirement benefits to Gramin Dak Seveks.

It also has to examine and recommend any changes that might be desirable in methods of recruitment, minimum qualifications for employment as Gramin Dak Sevaks along with conduct and disciplinary rules.

The Committee will also access the need and desirability of interim relief measures that may be provided until the Committee makes its recommendations and they are accepted by the Government.

The Department of Posts has 2.86 lakh Gramin Dak Sevaks who will come under the purview of the committee.
