Officials convicted in corruption case would be dismissed:Naveen

Bhubaneswar, July 25 (UNI) Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced that any government official convicted by a court in a misappropriation or corruption case would be dismissed from service.

The Chief Minister said every public office was a sacred trust and one who betrayed that trust by indulging in corruption would not be spared.

Addressing the 11th annual conference of Orissa state vigilance department, Mr Patnaik said the official would be dismissed from service unless stayed by a higher court.

He said rule of law, transparent and efficient work environment was necessary for the state's rapid economic progress and the vigilance department had played a major role in achieving it. He called upon the vigilance department to continue their campaign against corruption.

He said his government had always been laying emphasis on honesty and transparency and reiterated that corruption would not be tolerated.

Mr Patnaik said his government had sanctioned five new special judge courts in Cuttack, Balasore, Bhubaneswar, Bolangir and Jeypore for quick disposal of vigilance cases.

While the special courts in Cuttack,Balasore and Bolangir had started functioning, the courts at Jeypore and Bhubaneswar would become operational soon.

The Chief Minister said the special Court bill passed in the Assembly would go a long way in targetting corruption and punishing the guilty.
