NCW team to probe Nayagarh female foeticide case

New Delhi, July 25 (UNI) Taking cognisance of newsreports about recovery of decomposed female foetuses in Orissa, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has constituted a three-member probe committee to inquire into the incident.

The Committee, headed by NCW member Manju Snehlata Hembrom, comprises of Arun Kumar Mohanty, an NGO representative and advocate Pratap Naik.

The prove team will visit the areas, meet the persons involved, police officials and others and recommend remedial measures.

On July 14, seven female foetuses were found in a village near Nayagarh town.

The Union Health Ministry has sought a report from the Orissa Government on the female foeticide case.

A 12-year-old schoolboy found the foetuses in polythene bags as he was searching for waste bottles near Duburi Hills close to Ramachandiprasad village. But the foetuses disappeared by the time the Nayagarh police reached the spot.

The Nayagarh police have registered four separate cases and arrested seven people, all connected with nursing homes and ultrasound clinics.
