Lakdawala henchmen in UP arrested while buying weapon

Lucknow, July 25 (UNI) The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police today claimed to have arrested Anees Radiowala, an aide of international gangster Eijaz Lakhawala, from the Uttar Pradesh capital while he was here to get a weapon to allegedly attack singer Himesh Reshammiya and producer Raj Kumar Santoshi.

An STF official here said Radiowala and three of his henchmen were arrested this morning with a few weapons. ''They had planned to attack Reshammiya and Santoshi,'' he said.

State DGP Vikram Singh is expected to give more details on the arrests later today.

Lakdawala is one of the most wanted gangsters. In May 2003, he was rumored to have been killed when Dawood henchmen opened fire at him in a crowded market in Bangkok. However, he survived and moved to Canada.

In May 2004, he was arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa, following an Interpol red corner notice for him.

He is involved in more than 20 cases of extortion, attempt to murder and rioting.
