Govt to survey encroached land in the state: Minister

Bangalore, July 25 (UNI) The Karnataka government has initiated a comprehensive survey of encroachment of government land in the entire state, Revenue Minister Mr Jagadish Shettar informed the Karnataka Legislative Council here today.

Replying to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Mr Mukyamantri Chandru in the house today, the minister said the state government had asked the Deputy Commissioners to conduct a survey on encroachment in all the districts since 1999. The survey work had already begun in many districts.

He said after receiving reports from different districts, the government would take measures to recover all the government land. It had identified 8924 acres of encroached land in Bangalore rural district alone and 2096 acres of that had been vacated from the offenders.

The state government had brought an amendment to the Karnataka Land Revenue Act making encroachment of state land as a criminal offence and it would come to force shortly, he added.
