Government determined to make bluleines fall in line: Sheila
New Delhi, July 25 (UNI) Reiterating Delhi Government's resolve to discipline Bluelines to bring an end to the frequent accidents witnessed on the city roads for the past few weeks, Chief Minister Sheila today said the amount of indiscipline shown by these buses was something the state government had not imagined.
Sharing the concern in many quarters over the continuing accidents involving Bluelines despite strict measures by the Government, Ms Dikshit, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a conference to review five years of the power sector reforms in Delhi, said, ''frankly speaking we had not imagined that the driving by Bluleine drivers would be so reckless and indisciplined. But having realised that, we are pulling out all stops to ensure that these buses do not indulge in indisciplined driving on the city roads.'' Ms Dikshit said Transport Minister Haroon Yousuf had been constantly talking to the Blueline operators to maintain discipline on the city roads.
''In fact, keeping in view the continuing accidents involving these buses, we have put in place a strict enforcement system to maintain discipline among these drivers, including stationing PCR vans at several areas. Even home guards have been monitoring operations of these vehicles at every nook and corner of the city,'' the Chief Minister said.
She said it was to ensure that accidents caused by these buses in the past few weeks did not recur that the state government had subjected the 4000 Bluelines to intensive checking at the various DTC depots or fitness centres across the city.
The Bluelines have been undergoing checks at the fitness centres since July 21. Only the buses cleared after the checking would be allowed to run on city roads. Till yesterday over 1200 buses were cleared for operation on city roads.
The Chief Minister said that in order to ensure thorough checking of all the 4000 Blueline buses, the DTC fitness centres would remain open till July 29.
