Panaji, July 25 (UNI) The Goa government has sought the assistance of Anthropology Department of Karnataka University for drafting of an ''ethnographic report'' in relation to Scheduled Tribe status to be accorded to Dhangar/Gouli community.

Social Welfare Minister Pandurang Madkaikar today told the state Legislative Assembly in response to a starred question by Chandrakant Kavlekar (Congress) on including the Dhangar community in the ST list. The department was asked to expedite the report at the earliest, he informed.

The draft report of the university would be presented to the Registrar General of India to do the needful. The proposal to include Dhangars in the ST list was earlier sent to the RGI which, however, sought a revised report with additional information on the community.

Meanwhile, the state had already formulated a special scheme 'Gouli Development plan-2006' for the community's overall benefit.

It was notified on January 30 this year, the Minister added.
