Demo in front of Tripura Women's Commission

Agartala, July 25: The residents of Arundhutinagar area of outskrit Agartala staged angry demonstrations in front of the Tripura Women Commission today, demanding exemplary punishment to the in-laws of Rinku Ghosh, who was allegedly set on fire by her husband for dowry.

According to a report, Rinku's husband Joydev Ghosh, his parents and younger brother allegedly set Rinku on fire after pouring kerosene on her following her refusal to bring money from her father on July 4.

Rinku had been shifted to Agartala Government Medical College in critical condition where she expired last night. This enraged Rinku's family and neighbours who assembled in front of Tripura Women's Commission office with the dead body.

Rinku's family had paid Rs one lakh in cash at the time of marriage and more than Rs two lakh was paid afterwards on different occasions to Joydev, the victim's family alleged.

Reportedly, Joydev and his parents Jogamaya and Birendra and his younger brother Sahadev had been physically torturing Rinku for more money since her marriage and when she refused, they set her on fire.

The victim's family alleged that initially police refused to accept the FIR against Joydev's family and after three days police registered a case and subsequently they were produced to court and sent to jail.
