BJP demands CBI probe into hawala deals in Kerala

Kozhikode, Jul 25 (UNI) The BJP' Kerala unit today demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged multi-million rupees pipe (hawala) money deals in the state.

Referring to Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan's statement in the assembly yesterday admitting Rs 10,000 crore hawala transactions in the state, BJP state President P K Krishna Das alleged that the money was channelled for funding anti-social activities in the region.

Describing the official figure released by the Home Minister as incorrect, he cited unofficial sources as saying that illegal money worth Rs 50,000 crore was distributed among beneficiaries in the state.

Accusing both the ruling Left Democratic Front and the opposition United Democratic Front for supporting the hawala operators, he said the illegal money transactions was flourishing as the subsequent governments miserably failed to check their activities in the state.

The BJP leader alleged that many policemen were also involved in the operations.

Demanding a White Paper on the details of hawala transactions during the last five years and action taken on it, he said the disclosure of the statement made by Kodali Sreedharan, an arrested hawala extortonist, should also be revealed for the information of the people.

The BJP would conduct dharna and take out marches before district centres in the state on August 14 to stress on its demand, he said.

On the education policy, he said the majority community was being ignored by the government by granting reservation to minorities in the higher education sector in the state.

He said the party would also launch a 'Reservation Agitation'' against the ''anti-Hindu'' policies pursued by the government.

The details of the stir would be finalised at the state council meeting of the party to be held at Thiruvanathapuram on August 10 and August 11, he added.
