Stern action against colleges for excess fees: TN Minister

Chennai, Jul 24 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi said stringent action would be taken against the private and self financing engineering colleges for collecting excess fees from the students than the Government-fixed fees for the engineering courses.

Talking to newspersons in Airport here today, he said if necessary, the Government would not hesitate to cancel the recognition of the erring private and self financing engineering colleges through their respective Universities.

Mr Ponmudi said, based on specific complaints, a four-member committee appointed by the Government, raided two colleges near Chennai and another one at Namakkal and seized a large number of records and other documents from them.

If the complaints were proved after the verification of documents, suitable action would be initiated against the colleges concerned, he added.

The miister said surprise raids would continue whenever the Government receives complaints.
