Pub Trpt crisis could ease tom as 1272 bluelines to be on roads
New Delhi, July 24 (UNI) Expressing optimism that the public transport crisis being faced by Delhi over the past few days would be resolved soon, state Transport Minister Haroon Yousuf today said that with another 364 bluelines given clearance by the state Government today, a total of 1272 Bluelines would be on city roads by tomorrow.
Talking to reporters after a meeting to take stock of the public transport situation in the Capital, including the continuing spate of accidents involving bluelines, Mr Yousuf said the state government was planning to introduce the Global Positioning System (GPS) in the city to monitor the transport system, including operation of Blueline buses.
''Global Positioning System (GPS) is the only way to monitor the whole transport system as well as Blueline Buses. The government is planning to bring this system in operation very soon.
On the progress of the State Government's ongoing checking drive, Mr Yousuf said 558 blueline buses were scanned today, of which 364 had been declared fit by 1700hrs.
The checking drive was carried out in ten DTC Depots i.e.
Wazirpur, Rohini-II, BBM-I and II, Maya Puri, Hari Nagar, Sriniwaspuri, East Vinod Nagar and Burari Fitness Centre.
''With today's checking drive, a total of 1272 blueline buses will ply on road from tomorrow,''he said and appealed to commuters of Delhi to avoid hanging on gate of the buses.
He also appealed to Motorcyclists, vehiclists and bus drivers to avoid rash driving.
He said DTC carried 40 lakh people on Monday and earned Rs 1.56 crore.
