Orissa seeks Rs 306.70 crore Central assistance
Bhubaneswar, July 24 (UNI) The Orissa Government has sought a Central assistance of Rs 306.70 crore to compensate the loss caused by recent floods.
In addition to financial assistance, the state government also wanted 38,600 tonne of food grains from Central storages to tide over the situation.
Official sources here said a memorandum containing the demands would be submitted to the Central government through the visting Central team, who were here to assess the loss.
More than 13,000,00 people in 12 districts of the state were badly affected and crops damaged in more than 1.21 lakh hectares of land in the floods.
At least 32 people were killed in flood related incidents and 27,810 houses were damaged as water gushed into the habitated areas.
A large area of land in the district of Anugul, Ganjam, Nayagarha, Kandhamal, Sundergarh, Koraput, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Kendrapara and Mayurbhanja were submerged and caused widespread damage following heavy rains in the months of June and July.
A high level Central team led by Union Home department additional secretary Dinesh Singh is now visiting the flood affected areas to assess the damages.
