Bhopal, July 24 (UNI) The main opposition Congress members today staged a walkout from the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly in protest against allotment of land to office bearers of the ruling BJP.

When the matter was raised by Arif Akil (Congress) during the Question Hour, Minister of State for Revenue Narayan Singh Kushwah said government land was allotted to an NGO last year.

Mr Vivek Sarang was the Chairman of the NGO, while Mr Prasoon Sarang was its Vice-Chairman and Mr Vishwas Sarang its Secretary.

After the Minister's reply, Mr Akil claimed that land was allotted to them, as they were BJP office bearers.

He asked why land was not being allotted to other applicants.

Other opposition members questioned whether it was proper to allot land to office bearers of the ruling party.

Defending the government, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra said applications were not received on the basis of being a member of a particular party. Office-bearers of an organisation engaged in social work could also apply for government land.

Referring to the original question and its answer, Congress members wanted to know that out of the 12 people, who were allotted land, how many were BJP members.

After receiving reply, Congress members registered protest and staged a walkout.
