Mobile call traced, leads to arrest of ex-HM extortionist in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 24 (UNI) A mobile phone call helped Jammu and Kashmir police arrest a released militant of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), who was allegedly indulging in extortion and other crime in the Central Kashmir district of Badgam.

Station House Officer (SHO) of Khansahib said that a number of complaints were received that a person was harassing people and indulging in extortion and other crime in the area.

He said a special team was formed and a massive hunt launched to nab the extortionist.

A tip off was received that the extortionist, identified as Ghulam Qadir Sheikh, a released militant of HM, had snatched a mobile phone from a person and was making extortion calls to people.

The mobile was put on surveillance and the call was traced to be made from Kachwari forest.

He was later arrested alongwith one AK assault rifle, three magazines and 23 rounds of ammunition, the SHO said.
