Kidwai advocates promotion of pharmaceutical industry

Chandigarh, July 24 (UNI) Haryana Governor A R Kidwai has stressed that the pharmaceutical industry should be promoted as it had adequate research and development potential which could go a long way in boosting up the economy of the country.

The Governor, after inaugurating the new academic session of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) at Mohali yesterday, lauded NIPER's contribution in imparting quality education in Pharmaceutical field.

"Indian scientists and engineers have earned prestigious place in the world due to their knowledge and caliber. Many of the foreign organisations have a number of Indian scientist and engineers to handle their work efficiently," the Governor said.

However, Dr Kidawai advocated encouraging collaboration in India between different systems of medicines for providing relief to the mankind and stressed upon the need to develop other areas like nano-technology, bio-information and stem cell for eradicating many contagious diseases.

Earlier, Prof R R. Chaudhry, Chairman, Apollo Task Force for Research, New Delhi delivered lectures on Clinical evaluation of traditional medicines.

NIPER Director P Rama Rao and NIPER Dean K K Bhutani, also spoke on the occasion.
