Court set aside election to Ward 8 of N Barrackpore Municipality

Barasat, July 24 (UNI) A fast track court here today set aside a 2005 municipal election to Ward No. 8 of North Barrackpore Municipality in North 24 Parganas.

Ruling CPI(M) candidate was declared winner by the spin of a coin after the result was tied with 1226 votes each between the Congress and CPI(M) candidates.

Congress candidate Parvati Banerjee, however, moved the court challenging the decision saying the election was not fair as a good number of ballot papers polled were found unstamped and unsigned.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Shyamsundar Chatterjee today set aside the election to Ward No.8.

Reacting upon hearing the verdict of the court, CPI(M) chairman of the municipality expressed unhappy and shocked and said the party will decide the next course of action against the court order.
