Boy washed away, flood loss calculates to Rs 10 crore in Tripura

Agartala, Jul 24 (UNI) A 12-year-old boy was washed away in the Howrah River here last evening when he was fishing in the flood water.

Police said the victim, identified as Muktar Hussan, was a resident of Srilankabasti, near here.

Meanwhile, flash floods due to torrential rains over the past four days affected about 20,000 people in Tripura and the total loss was calculated at more than Rs 10 crore.

Official sources here today said that traffic movement was disrupted on a few inter-state roads and also on National Highway 44 due to landslides, while several low lying areas in South Tripura district were inundated, causing extensive damage to the standing crops.

Sources said, over 1000 families became homeless in the flood and water of the river Gumati is still flowing at the danger level posing threat to villages.

Met officials predicted more rainfall in next 24 hours in the state and bad weather would be continued for at least another two days.
