Quake measuring 5.1 rocks parts of HP

Shimla, July 23: An earthquake of moderate intensity, measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale, rocked parts of Shimla, Kinnuar, Lahaul and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh early today, senior seismologist Naresh Sharma said.

The quake with its epicenter at Gaumukh region of Uttaranchal was felt at about 0432 hrs, Mr Sharma, senior seismologist of the Dehra Dun observatory, told sources by phone.

He said tremors were felt at many places in Uttaranchal and parts of Shimla, Kinnaur, Lahual and Spiti districts of the state.

However, no loss of life and property has been reported from anywhere in Himachal, according to preliminary information received here.
