Meeting on bio-medical waste management held
Chandigarh , July 23 (UNI) To ensure that bio-medical waste is handled without any adverse effect to human health and the environment, animal husbandry officers of the state were today made aware about the bio-medical waste management and handling rules-1998, by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB).
The presentation by PPCB was made in a high level meeting of Deputy Directors of the animal husbandry department from different districts. The meeting was presided over by Mr S C Agrawal, Financial Commissioner, Animal husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development.
During the presentation, procedures to be adopted for treatment and disposal of different categories of medical waste - like anatomical waste, animal waste, microbiological waste, needles, syringes, blades, glass items contaminated with blood, body fluids, including cotton, dressing etc were given.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Agrawal called upon the district officers to publicise the policies and programmes of the Punjab Government and to make concerted efforts to launch mass awareness about benefits of artificial insemination and preventive vaccination against different infectious diseases.
