Kingpin in societies scam directed to surrender to CBI
New Delhi, Jul 23 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed Sushil Prasad Saxena, the builder and the kingpin in the multi-crore co-operative Society scam, to surrender before the CBI on Wednesday morning as some facts for interrogation were still pending.
A bench comprising Justices Manmohan Sarin and S K Mishra directed the lawyers of Saxena to ask him to surrender before the CBI as the investigating agency needed his custodial interrogation for one week. Saxena was arrested earlier and had remained in custody for about seven months.
Lawyers for Saxena, Shibu Shankar Mishra and Syed Anwar told the court that Saxena was out of Delhi to Shirdi. He would surrender as soon as he came back on Wednesday.
The scam, which broke out in the 2004, revealed how the builders had taken over the dysfunct co-operative societies which were alloted land at throwaway prices and later sold the flats at exhorbitant rates to other owners. As many as 200 co-operative societies came under the scanner. CBI inquiry was ordered and about 20 chargesheets have been filed so far in the court.
There were about 200 persons involved in the scam but chargesheets against about 50 accused had been filed so far. The accused included Registrar of the Co-perative societies N Diwakar and builders like Ashwani Sharma, Sri Chand, Gokul Chand M N Sharma and many others.
The scam ran into more than Rs 400 crore and CBI was on the run to find more loopholes in the scam.
