IPS officer sold milk to govt canteen

Bhopal, July 23 (UNI) A departmental inquiry has been ordered into complaints against an IPS officer in Madhya Pradesh for allegedly selling milk of cows and buffaloes -- bred at his official residence -- to government canteen, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan informed the state assembly today.

In a written reply to Mr Umashankar Gupta (BJP), Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said Indore-based Armed Police Training College's (APTC) the then Commandant C S Malviya sold milk to APTC canteen.

Besides, constable Tartif Singh, who looked after the cattle, was awarded for being most disciplined.

The IPS officer has also been accused of misbehaving with neighbours. After preliminary investigation, a departmental inquiry was ordered into complaints against Mr Malviya.

The Chief Minister said preliminary investigations were underway against 36 IPS officers in various cases.

A case was also registered against Mr Rajababu Singh, Commandant, First Battalion, Indore, under section 306 of the IPC.

In reply to another question, Mr Chouhan admitted of dearth in number of officers at the Superintendent of Police level.

He said a proposal for revision of these posts would be sent after receiving directions from the Centre.

The Chief Minister said 60 posts had been sanctioned for the level of the Director General, the Additional Director General, Inspector General and and Deputy Inspector General.

However, 106 officers -- 46 more than the sanctioned number -- were assigned to these postings.
