FM to inaugurate conf of Chief Commissioners of Customs

New Delhi, July 23 (UNI) Finance Minister P Chidambaram will inaugurate here tomorrow the All India Annual Conference of the Chief Commissioners and Director Generals of Customs and Central Excise.

The two day conference will commence with performance appraisal of the department in key areas such as revenue, trade facilitation and enforcement. This will be followed by a session on the status of automation initiatives of CBEC.

A separate session is being devoted for 'Integrity development' in the Department.

The conclave will also deliberate on initiatives to fine-tune the tax administration, and the importance of buttressing it with rapid computerisation.

Other important issues such as measures to improve compliance levels in Indirect Taxation, Dispute Resolution, Goods and Service tax and Emerging Challenges before Customs will also figure in the deliberations.

The conference will act as a catalyst for providing important contribution to strengthening of the Indirect Tax administration. It will also provide an opportunity to the Chief Commissioners and Director Generals to interact with each other and discuss issues of general and common nature.

Minister of State for Finance (Revenue) S S Palanimanickam will preside over the valedictory function on Wednesdy.
