Educational institutions and pvt health services under tax purview

Patna, Jul 23 (UNI) Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today said the educational institutions and private health services would be brought under the purview of service tax.

Referring to the decisions taken in the recent meeting of the empowered committee of Finance Ministers, Mr Modi told newspersons here that the Centre had allowed the states to impose service tax on 44 services.

Of these the State Government had so far selected five services, including educational institutions, private health services, games played using coins and other entertainment services, to bring them within the ambit of service tax, he added.

Mr Modi said the deposits in the post offices had gone down due to the higher interest rates offered by the Banks and the consumers were attracted towards the Banks instead of depositing their money in post office.
