Denied union, couple commits suicide in Guwahati

Guwahati, Jul 23 (UNI) Dissuaded from marrying each other by their families, a couple today committed suicide in a lodge in Guwahati.

Police said Raj Kumar Choudhury and Priti were found hanging from the ceiling of a room at Sinha Lodge at Dispur here this morning.

Sources said the couple were staying at the lodge since the last three months.

A resident of Nalbari, Priti had eloped with Raj - a Guwahati-based contractor and Congress worker - eight days after she was forcibly married to a man.

In a suicide note, both stated that had chosen the path of suicide as they were denied marriage by their families.

The note stated that the couple wished to donate their bodies to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, police added.
