Delhi cabinet: Go ahead on Fire Service ordinance,MLA pension

New Delhi, July 23 (UNI) The Delhi Cabinet today recommended promulgation of Delhi Fire Service Ordinance 2007 and referred the amendment to the Delhi MLAs' (Salaries, Allowances, Pension etc.) Act, 1994 to the Centre for its concurrence.

The decision's were taken in a Cabinet Meeting presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Briefing mediapersons after the meeting, Ms Dikshit stated that the recommendation on promulgation of the Fire Service Ordinance, will be sent to Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna.

The proposed ordinance is a comprehensive document which has been prepared after suitably modifying and incorporating the provisions of the Delhi Fire Bill, 2001. It has suitable provisions on various aspects like organisation, control and discipline in Delhi Fire Service, levy and control of fire tax, renewal of obstructions in Fire Fighting and Rescue Operation, special provisions for fire prevention and fire safety, measures in multi-storeyed buildings, establishment of a Fire Training Institute and power to declare Fire Service as essential services.

She expressed confidence that the proposed ordinance once promulgated would be able to provide comprehensive fire safety and redefine entire aspects of Fire Safety.

She further said that her Government has decided to refer an amendment to Delhi MLAs' (Salaries, Allowances, Pension etc.) Act, 1994 to the Union Government for its concurrence.

''This would enable MLAs' to receive any other pension i.e.

Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension in addition to the pension admissible under the Act,'' she said.

The amendment once implemented would bring the pension of MLAs' of Delhi on par with their counterparts from other states in the country.
