Checking ST diseases in milch animals in Punjab

Chandigarh, July 23 (UNI) All scrub bulls in the villages in Punjab, which are not used for breeding purposes would be culled so as to prevent spread of sexually transmissible diseases.

These bulls would be periodically checked for occurrence of any disease, state Animal Husbandry Director B S Sidhu said while addressing officers of his department here today.

He further said that 500 buffalo male calves and 30 elite cross bred cows with peak yield of more than 32 litres would be purchased by the department from dairy farmers or breeders. These cows would be used to produce male calves, which would be used later at semen banks of the department, he added.

The male buffalo calves from mothers with milk yield of more than 18 litres would be supplied to village panchayats at 50 per cent subsidy, Dr Sidhu added.
