Bldg collapse: One remanded to police custody, other moves ABA
Mumbai, July 23 (UNI) A local court today remanded Sanjay Jain, a partner of Vardhaman Jewellers in Borivali, to police custody till July 31, for allegedly renovating the jewellery shop situated on the ground floor of Laxmi Chhaya building that collapsed on July 18 this year killing 30 perons and injuring 17 others.
His partner Kailash Jain, however, moved an anticipatory bail application in the Sessions court fearing arrest after Sanjay Jain was booked under sections 304 (causing death by negligence), 427 (mischief causing damage) and 288 (repairing building).
Sanjay Jain was produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate court, Borivali which remanded him to police custody till July 31.
Granting interim relief to Kailash jain, the City Civil and Session court Judge Ashok Bhangale directed him to be present in the court tomorrow.
The partners had renovated Vardhaman Jewellery shop on the ground of floor of Laxmi Chhaya building during which a concrete column was removed which allegedly caused the building to collapse.
