5 magnitude quake jolts Delhi, HP, Uttarakhand
New Delhi, July 23 (UNI) An earthquake with a magnitude of 5 on the Richter scale struck Delhi and parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakand early today.
The quake, which struck at 0432 hrs, was epicentred at 31.2 degrees north latitude and 78.2 degrees east longitude, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) release said.
There were no fatalities or damage to property.
A report from Shimla said the earthquake of moderate intensity, measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale, rocked parts of Shimla, Kinnuar, Lahaul and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh, senior seismologist Naresh Sharma said.
However, no loss of life and property has been reported from anywhere in Himachal.
A report from Dehra Dun said the epicentre of the earthquake was Gomukh in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.
The tremors continued for about 20 to 25 seconds. Mild tremors were also experienced at several places, including Tehri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Mussoorie, Nainital and Dehra Dun.
