1246 families in NE set up Biogas plants
Agartala, Jul 23: About 1246 families in the Northeastern states have set up Biogas plants as an alternative source of energy in the last fiscal.
Official sources here today said that Ministry of Renewable Energy had been implementing National Biogas and Manure Management Programme (NBMMP) through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Sikkim while state Renewable Energy Development Agencies were implementing it in other states.
Sources said that the Ministry had sanctioned 66 district level and six State level energy parks in the Northeastern states in the last fiscal and 23 of them using wind power programme in six states while a series of programmes for wind power development in the region were taken up.
The Centre had allocated about 11,500 solar home lighting systems, 500 street lighting systems and 8,000 solar lanterns and 35 solar pumps under the Solar Photovoltaic Programmes (SPV) to NE states so far, sources added.
