Woman gets lifer for burning her daughter-in-law

Kolhapur, July 22 (UNI) A fast track court here sentenced a 60-year-old woman to life imprisonment for buring her daughter-in- law last year.

Fast track court judge S P Kulkarani found Geeta Maruti Kundle, hailing from Hingangaon in Hatkanangale tehsil of the district, guilty of the crime and awarded the sentence yesterday.

According to prosecution, on May 3 last year, Geeta had a quarrel with her daguther-in-law, Suvarna (22), in their house over a trivial issue.

Irate with her dauther-in-law, Geeta poured kerosene on Suvarna and set her ablaze, in which the latter received serious burn injuries.

Suvarna was rushed to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
