Chandigarh, July 22 (UNI) Firebrand Congress MLA from Palwal, Karan Singh Dalal has demanded that former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal should resign as MLA, owning moral responsibility for the debacle of ''his camp's evil designs in the Presidential elections ''.

While hailing the thumping victory of Mrs Pratibha Patil as a victory of the policies and programmes of the UPA government, Mr Dalal, in a statement here today, said the very fact that 74 MLAs voted for the UPA candidate in Haryana, where the strength of the Congress MLAs was only 67. '' This has exposed beyond doubt the tall claims made by the Bhajan Lal camp, led by his suspended Congress MP son Kuldeep Bishnoi, that a majority of the party MLAs in the state were with them'', he added.

Congratulating Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for marshalling votes for the UPA candidate in the Presidential election, he said Bhajan Lal's infamous brand of ''jor-tor'' (make and break) politics would no longer work, as the people now supported leaders who could lead governments that performed. Since Bhajan Lal had won the assembly elections on the Congress ticket, he should resign on moral grounds and seek a fresh mandate, he added.

He said that the outcome of the Presidential election in Haryana had also displayed the popularity of Mr Hooda among the people because of which he had been able to muster votes beyond the strength of the Congress in the 90-member state assembly.

Congress MLA from Rai and former minister Ramesh Kaushik has also lashed out at the Bhajan Lal camp for misleading the people of Haryana with claims of enjoying the support of a majority of the Congress MLAs in the state.

Apparently only one or two MLAs supported Bhajan Lal in his campaign for a ''conscience vote'' in the Presidential elections, which has raised a question mark on the so-called massive Rohtak rally proposed by the Bhajan Lal camp, Mr Kaushik said. He said that the very fact that the rally had been postponed not once, but several times, on one pretext or the other, clearly showed that they were unsure of their support among the masses.

Mr Kaushik also demanded the resignation of Bhajan Lal as MLA and his MP son saying they had no moral right to continue. The party had no place for such ''opportunists'' such as Bhajan Lal and his disgruntled son Kuldeep Bishnoi, he added.
