Palanpur, Gujarat, July 22 (UNI) Two female children, abandoned at birth by their parents one-and-half months back, were adopted by two childless couples today.

The Palanpur-based Women Rescue Home's Superintendent Gitaben Vyas said the two babies were adopted yesterday by Pritiben Pradhan and her civil-engineer husband Sachin of Vejalpur locality of Vadodara and Dipti and Harish Parmar of Anjar in Kacch.

Ms Vyas said ''We are used to getting abandoned female babies.

However, they do not get adopted as childless couples prefer a male child. This is, therefore, a rare moment for us that two female babies were adopted from our centre.'' Pritiben Pradhan, who adopted one of the babies, christened her 'Vaidehi'. She said, ''We are thankful to God for having blessed us with a child. We have been longing for a child since the past eight years.'' The couple want to provide the child with the best education and ''make her a doctor.'' The other child that was adopted by the Parmar's are delighted by her entry to their household. Mr Parmar said, ''A girl child is an incarnation of Laxmi, the Goddess of riches and prosperity. We are happy as we wanted to have a child since the past six years.'' Dilharben, principal of Girls PTC College said ''Usually the childless parents prefer male child but now the trend has changed.''
